The Grumman Avenger was an American torpedo bomber developed for the United States Navy and Marine Corps and also used by air and naval forces around the world.
Entering service in 1942 and first seeing action during the Battle of Midway the Avenger went to become the most effective and widely-used torpedo bomber of World War II, sharing credit for both the sinking of the super-battleships Yamato and the Musashi.
